“Der Anarch”—Asserting our Sovereign Individuality and Sovereign Citizenship as not only “Anarchen” but also “Ubermenschen” is the only path to resist Totalitarianism in the United States and around the World

You see a lot of insults being heaped these days at the core Constitutional concept of “the sovereign citizen” as a political or philosophical movement these days, as if it were conjured up by a bunch of illiterate hillbillies  who just want to hide their moonshine & pot-liquor from “the feds” and the “revenuers.”  Credible reports from all over the United States suggest that local police are everywhere being taught to watch out for the dangerous “sovereign citizens” who assert their constitutional rights “too often or too loudly” as subversive terrorists.  My perspective on such matters is: MAY THE LORD OUR GOD BLESS, KEEP, AND PROTECT ALL SUBVERSIVE TERRORISTS WHO FIGHT FOR THEIR CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS, JUST AS HE KEPT AND PROTECTED PATRICK HENRY, GEORGE WASHINGTON, THOMAS JEFFERSON, JAMES MADISON, BENJAMIN FRANKLIN, and ANDREW JACKSON BEFORE….

And ever since Liza Mundy published my identity as an “Anarchist” (she left out the “Traditional, Jeffersonian, Southern Constitutionalist” modifiers to that label) in the Washington Post on October 6, 2009, I have repeatedly been asked to explain myself—how can I be an “anarchist?”  Doesn’t that mean I just want “chaos?”  Well, up to a point, I will admit that “chaos” to me seems preferable to computer driven and enforced high-tech “order.”  I would rather live in Early Anglo-Saxon or Norse Viking Society or at the edge of the Western Frontier in 18th Century Virginia than in any of Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, George Orwell’s 1984, or Jerry Brown’s Barbara Boxer’s & Dianne Feinstein’s California 2013.

But it happens that living in a “leaderless” society and accepting no man as an arbiter of YOUR OWN DEFINITION of “good and evil” (or going beyond such things) has a very respectable historical pedigree….  Today I just want to celebrate Friedrich Wilhelm Nietzsche and Ernst Jünger— http://www.ernst-juenger.org.

Ernst Jünger was an anti-Nazi German Conservative and Intellectual of the highest calibre and standing.  He lived until the age of 102, from 1895-1998, beating even my grandmother Helen for longevity (she only made it to 101).

My political philosophy is fundamentally anti-modern and therefore truly “conservative” whereas Naziism, like George H.W. Bush’s & George W. Bush’s Socialist-Corporatism (which includes Obama and the Clintons, by the way), is fundamentally modernist—embracing technology as a means of oppression and control by monitoring.

No  “Traditional, Jeffersonian, Southern Constitutionalist” could possibly tolerate the Department of Homeland Security, the National Defense Authorization Act, or any of the now thousands of related executive orders.  GHW Bush, GW Bush, WJ Clinton, HR Clinton, and BH Obama are all fundamentally students and followers of Stalin, Mao, and perhaps even Hitler. (1)

I am much more a student and follower of Ernst Jünger.

Jünger was among the forerunners of magical realism—a very broad topic into which I think you could integrate everything from Joss Whedon’s Buffy-the-Vampire Slayer TV Series to Terrance Malick’s films (include “To the Wonder” and “Tree of Life”).  A friend of mine from the Ukraine recently commented that Jünger’s view of life and the current historical trajectory involves the “re-mythologization of the world,” the protection, preservation, and restoration of individual imagination, instinct, intuition as major factors in world politics and society.

My supplement to this is that all historical interpretations and political philosophies are essentially mythologies informed by more-or-less gross reorderings of the events of individual, local, regional, national, continental, and global existence.  The mythology of American Constitutional Law depends entirely (these days) on the so-called “Civil War” of 1861-1865, except to the degree that it is supplemented by the post-1945 One World Religion of the Taboo Holocaust and the Credal virtues of the United Nations.

Jünger’s vision in The Glass Bees (1957, German title: Gläserne Bienen), of a future in which an overmechanized world threatens individualism, could be seen as a direct critique of Artificial (robotic) Intelligence and even this “Aryan Traditionalism” you’re looking at (which reminds me so much of “The Santa Fe Plateau and New Age Alchemy” of Yosi Taitz, Daylight Chemical, and similar companies….)

Jünger was an entomologist as well as a soldier and writer, a “manly man” but sensitive poet with training in botany and zoology, as well as a soldier, his works in general are infused with tremendous details of the natural world.

One of Jünger’s most important literary contributions was the metahistoric figure of Der Anarch (“the sovereign person”), which evolved from his earlier conception of the Waldgänger, or “Forest Goer”.  Der anarch is Jünger’s answer to the question of survival of individual freedom in a totalitarian world, and it is ten thousand times more relevant today than it was 57 years ago as he was writing.  It is developed primarily through the character of Martin Venator in his novel Eumeswil.   Der Anarch IS not only the original “Sovereign Citizen”, at least the original “post Hitlerian” sovereign citizen, he is also a Nietzschean Ubermensch, with the capacity to retake his sovereignty from tyrants and maintain it, like the Superman, even in the forest, even in the Mountains, even in the Desert.

I totally believe in the sovereignty of each person and I hate the notion that the sovereign citizen has become the object of such ridicule in our society—a terrorist profile in the target of DHS.  What is clear is that we need to reassert our freedom in more articulate and fluent ways.  Fluency is required and intellectual heritage must be asserted because of the intellectual snobbery bred into us and our by the 20th century.  This snobbery led to such atrocious and fraudulent (incomprehensible) disasters as George W. Bush having degrees from both Harvard and Yale (it’s amazing what money can buy) and Obama attending Columbia, Harvard, and (worst of all) actually teaching at the University of Chicago—teaching constitutional law, no less, at MY alma mater as a successor to Michael W. McConnell—a concept which simply shocks and derails me.

Academic snobbery, which L. Frank Baum once ridiculed as a “Wogglebug Education” even after the Wizard’s dispensation of Brains to the Scarecrow was not a factor in the foundation of America, by men whose minds and mental capacities are simply beyond equal anywhere. No, lack of degrees and academic affiliation quite simply didn’t bother the extremely well-educated under-institutionalized Founding Fathers of the USA such as Patrick Henry and Benjamin Franklin one little bit….and didn’t actually have much of an impact on intellectual or philosophical careers in the 19th century either—consider that Richard Wagner never went to a music conservatory, Charles Darwin dropped out of Medical School and only grudgingly completed a degree in divinity at Cambridge, which he, oddly enough, never really used….and the lack of formal education completed by such legendary U.S. Presidents as Andrew Jackson and Abraham Lincoln is a part of every schoolboy’s and schoolgirl’s learning—or at least it used to be before modern education norms set in.

In this same spirit, Ernst Jünger rejected all the titles and honors offered him by Hitler’s Third-Reich, and when assigned as a cultural attachee during the occupation of Paris, chose to hang out with subversive and degenerate artists…  This is the true legacy of a genuine Anarchist, and the world would do well to remember how important the “leaderless” spirit can be when “Obama’s going to change things….Obama’s going to make it happen” as some of the children’s school songs now go….

(a)  Unlike so many modern critics of 20th-21st century totalitarianism, I cannot automatically group Hitler, Mussolini, and Franco in the same list as Stalin and his Soviet successors, or Roosevelt and his Keynsian modern American Successors. I think Hitler was in fact much more of an ordinary person than any of these others, but at the same time he had higher and more “humane” [i.e. romantic, not necessarily rational or sensible] ideals than either of the Bushes, the Clintons or Obamas, however grotesquely inept he may have been in achieving, implementing, or realizing those ideals.

Charles Edward Andrew Lincoln, IV: Happy 20th Birthday—two decades since Hurricane Andrew and “Little Hurricane” arrive at the same time in West Palm Beach

The effective end of my son’s 20th birthday, at 7:31pm, without having heard from him, just brings to mind James Thurber’s epigram: “The world is full of such a number of things, I’m sure we should all be as happy as kings–and you know how happy kings are.”

I suppose there was a time when I believed that I was a wonderful father and that my relationship with my son was the greatest success story of my life… but like so many optimistic thoughts I’ve had in life, it hasn’t worked out that way, much to my sorrow.

I suppose one reason I am so obsessed with the movie Moonrise Kingdom (I have totally lost track of how many times I’ve seen it, possibly a dozen), is that it’s mythological “Age of Innocence” reminds me so much of the world of my own childhood, and how I wish I could have given my son a world as pure and innocent as that world back in an America where it was normal, rather than abnormal/bordering on pathological, to be white and Christian and basically unaware of anything else…. as it seems in Wes Anderson’s movie to have been in 1965, and as it was in my early experience not long after that….

In essence, I married very poorly: a woman who desperately wanted to conform to all the worst norms of modern society while pretending to support all the most traditional values in order to get what she wanted.  All of this was perfectly acceptable behavior by modern standards—but I am sorry that I couldn’t give my son a far better life and childhood than I had, which was always my dream for him.  In the words of the guardian of Petra—Cave of the Holy Grail, in “Indian Jones and the Last Crusade”—”I chose poorly” at least when it came to making a home and a good life for my boy.

I also allowed my marriage to be drawn into the horrible quagmire of the Texas Family Court system—there’s no good solution for Texas Family Court Judges and lawyers except, without exception, to hang them all—in true Shakespearean fashion and with full sixteenth Elizabethan gore—possibly hang the Family Judges AFTER boiling them in oil—something like that…. forget the Eighth Amendment for the lot of them….

I think that the summary execution courts the “revolution” set up in New York City during “Batman: Dark Knight Rises”—are a good model for disposing of the Family Courts…. and yet there are even deeper problems leading to my 18 month estrangement from my son now….

My son and I were extremely close from one hour after his birth, but especially during about the time he was 1 and first started walking and saying “Da-Da-Da Daddy” in our apartment at 225 Atlantic in Palm Beach 33480, precisely on his first birthday through his 10th birthday…and most of his tenth year until Memorial Day Weekend 2001.

The best of the early years were probably 1996-1999 when we traveled constantly together, several times to the Texas State Fair in Dallas (and to visit his grandma Alice and great-grandma Helen in Highland Park), innumerable times to the beach in Galveston, where we spent most of the summer of 1997.  We had one marvelous trip to Disneyland when he was five (January 1998)—it was a perfect age—he asked if the Mickey Mouse figure walking around was real—.

In the summer of 1998 we had a long trip through the Southwest, leaving through Palo Duro Canyon near Lubbock and going on to Pecos, Santa Fe, Taos, Chaco Canyon, the San Juan River Valley, the Hopi Plateau, Mesa Verde, and the Grand Canyon, returning through Amarillo and trying our luck at the gigantic 72 oz “free” steak at the Texas Steak House….

The same summer we followed up by a trip to Chicago—I’ll never forget our gigantic room at the Chicago Hilton overlooking Grant Park and Michigan Avenue, or receiving the news of the 1998 attacks on the American Embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam while we were there.  1999 was our summer first season in Yucatan, Mexico since Spring 1995—we stayed at the dearly beloved “Capitán Lafitte” by the Caribbean…..

After May 2003, “domestic troubles between his mother and me” separated us for two solid years until June 2005 (after which two year time he had grown so much I didn’t recognize him when he stopped me on the street)  and then again our interaction was “spotty” at best until 2008-2009, when we spent two successive summers in Cambridge while he went to the Harvard Summer School.   In 2007-2010 I was living mostly either in Galveston or New Orleans and Charlie was a great fan of both the Audubon Zoo and the Aquarium of the Americas there….

In the Summer of 2010 we spent a lot of time after his high school graduation in Texas and then took a trip to California right before he started Saint John’s College in Annapolis, Maryland, and boy I was proud to see him there.  After that, we went to New Orleans and spent Christmas there, with his mother Elena and grandmother Nina, oddly enough…. for the first time in so many years… It seemed as though our Broken Family was on the mend…..for about six weeks anyhow….maybe less….

Around February 2011 some strange things started happening and I haven’t seen him since then.  In essence, I suspect it was his mother playing games again to turn him against me.  I had hope that once he was an adult (2010) he’d grow away from her sphere of absolute control, but life is not a fairy tale I guess and not everything ends “happily ever after.”  Charlie’s mother (Elena) and maternal grandmother (Nina) reduced Charlie’s uncle George (Kourembanas) to the status of an extremely strong but confused child for all of his adult life, and ultimately George died a premature death in January 2010 at the not so ripe or old age of 51.  I had always feared that similar things might happen to Charlie, but I hoped he had escaped….until now.

Nevertheless, my son is and always will be the apple of my eye, my primary hope for immortality, and I think of him constantly, so even during these odd periods of engineered estrangement I am thinking of him constantly.

Modern marriage is basically a travesty.  Women are taught to demand everything and give nothing to their husbands by feminism, socialism, social-workers, psychologists, and other single mothers who eschew marriage all together and regard men merely as “sperm donors” who, for some reason, may become immediately indebted for all they are worth to the sperm donees.

The notion of “til death do you part” is almost a joke, although my wife, Charlie’s mother and I, had given each other blood oaths never to divorce and leave Charlie alone…. We had massive troubles in 1995-1999 but seemed by the end of 1999 to have come through them, only to see everything rise up again in the summer of 2002, uglier and more vicious than ever.

We are all products of our time and culture.  The government fears strong families and strong individuals because strong families and strong individuals do not need to be dependent on the government, but the government wants EVERYONE to be dependent and subservient.

I strongly advocate the abolition of the Family Courts and “Domestic Relations and Child Support” social service structures in the United States—not their reformation but their absolute abolition.

The strength of an institution ( such as marriage ) is tested out and defined by it’s reaction under stress.  In the old days couples in marital trouble went to their families and their priests for resolution.  Marital contracts were treated as private matters.  These days 501(c)(3) priests and pastors are afraid of stepping on the toes of social services and the courts, and if family members get involved they are likely to be arrested and/or accused of “abuse”…. or worse…
The intervention of the State and Social welfare services is a large part of what has made marriage a travesty, starting with the licensing procedure.  But basically I conclude that the state controlled marriage contract as enforced today is basically a sex for sale and breeding contract.  Prenuptial private marital contracts are frowned upon and the state imposes (through the family and domestic relations codes) is a “one size fits all contract of adhesion” regarding which parties cannot even contract around.  And it is not just my experience — it is the experience of hundreds, maybe thousands of men and women I have talked to.

One of my best friends on the Planet, Dr. Kathy Ann Garcia-Lawson of Palm Beach Gardens, is a psychologist, but frankly, I see no value in the professions of psychology or psychiatry—at least not of the Freudian variety.  Jungian “racial archetypes” and the racial subconscious may hold some validity but Freudian analysis, for all its mass appeal, seems basically to be “analysis in the service of the socialist state”—my grandmother Helen Meyer described psychiatrists and psychologists as “a bunch of filthy minded perverts who worked to pervert everyone else”—and my experience has done little to dissuade me from her way of thinking.

My dear friend Kathy is such a radical exception to the Freudian norm—she is a Christian and an ethical believer in the family—I’m not sure how she survives in the profession of psychology….but she does, quite distinguished in fact….

And in the years 2008-2010 Charlie and I even visited Kathy several times at her beautiful home in Palm Beach Gardens—and it’s beyond my ability to believe that I have not seen my son for a solid year and a half now—although never a day goes by that I’m not thinking of him and hardly a week goes by that I don’t try to reach him by multiple e-mails or phone calls.

Since Charlie seems to want his privacy on his 20th birthday I guess I’ll let him have it…. but that can’t stop me from missing him and thinking about him and wishing he were here in California so we could either go out to the Islands or up to the Mountains to Yosemite or Sequoia or down to Baja, or further…..

Family estrangement is a terrible thing, but it seems almost “normal” in the modern world…. and for that alone, the Brave New World is indeed an accursed place….

Historical Metaphors and Mythic Realities—Dark Knight Rises, Aurora, and the Olympics—Is there more truth in the movies than the news? A forest of symbols and semiotic (coded) messages…. Are we not ultimately the most legitimate arbiters of our own integrity? Should we blindly believe that which is unbelievable?

Do Cinematic Semiotics tell more than CNN?

It seems undeniable that a growing number of people simply have no confidence in the national government of any member of the U.N. Security Counsel or anything that they say or do—or in the elections that appear to shape their composition for that matter.   Pretty obviously, I am one of that growing number and I just wish it were growing faster.  But here’s what I see:

I am not alone in believing that the more likely explanations for the events in Aurora, Colorado, are to be found in the premier of the Dark Knight Rises, and the initiation of the Olympics strongly suggest than in government pronouncements of any kind, including those quoted on the news.

http://unifiedserenity.wordpress.com/2012/07/24/batman-rises-symbolism-in-aurora-shooting-and-landmarks-points-to-a-ritual-taking-place/

http://www.godlikeproductions.com/forum1/message1936994/pg.

As frustrated as I get with my long-time assistant Peyton Freiman sometimes, I have to acknowledge again that he was the first one who pointed out the links between MK Ultra and the new species of staged crime that has so dramatically narrowed the gap between socially-sanctioned ritual-killings, crime, and terrorism that we have seen evolving in America since 1965 at least.  The motif of the lone gunman, the madman, doing things which are on so many levels politically significant.  I quote again from “Godlike Productions” website:

LAST DISCOVERIES London Olympic False Flag & JAMES HOLMES AURORA CARNAGE EXPLAINED! (PIN THIS)

*** Aurora Carnage is a staged False Flag and James Holmes is a MKultra victim, a Manchurian candidate ***

- The Cinema Century 16 (6+1=7) refers to 7/27 as the shooting took place on 7/20/12, just 7 days before 7/27/12.

The colors on the entry of the Century 16 cinema refers to the Olympic Colors, you can even see the masonic logo on it.

- The carnage was in theater 9 which refers to the “Spooks: Code 9″ (a predictive movie about the London Olympic Nuclear False Flag), 9 is the number of completion, the achieved work, ie mass death through a satanic ritual sacrifice.

- James Holmes was a student in the University of Denver which is part of the universities which are involved in the MKUltra program.

- There is a 1986 Batman comics which title is “My Sweet Satan” in which a man gun fire on a crowded theater, the comic shows a spiral behind this man which refers to the MKultra program meaning that the killer has been programmed (manchurian candidate), the comic also shows XXX on the cinema which refers to the London Olympics which are the 30th (XXX in roman means 30 in decimal) olympic games.

- A day before the Aurora Carnage, CNN aired a video news anchor analyzing the conditions for an ordinary man to turn into a movie superhero/supercriminal.

- The trailers of the movies Skyfall and Gangster Squad were played before Screenings of the Dark Knight Rise, these trailers contains very explicit contents which seem to work as a trigger for James Holmes. Gangster Squad has already been withdrawn because of the Aurora Carnage, it shows a group of armed men shooting on a crowded theater.

- Skyfall’s trailer begin with sequence phrase which work as a trigger sequence in MK Ultra, Manchurian Candidate plotline:

Country – Britain
Gun – Shot
Agent – Provocateur
Murder – Employment
Skyfall Skyfall – Done

- The trailer Skyfall also shows a MIND BLOWING PROOF which definitely prooves that this is really connected with Aurora Carnage and that this shooting was actually staged: @0:40 of the Skyfall’s trailer, you can read on a building in red letters: “AURORA”

- There is also an FBI skyfall warning which was issued on the FBI website which title is Skyfall and it’s about a terrorist attack.

- There is a clip by Lil Wayne “My Homies Still” which was released few days before the Aurora Carnage and it shows 12 skulls in a theater (refering to the 12 deaths in the Aurora Carnage), a batman like costume, manikins like the ones used in mkultra programs…

James Holmes uses the same drug than the drug which killed Heath Lodger who played the character of the Joker in the last Batman… Knowing that Heath Lodger’s death is an illuminati assassination, it confirms that James Holmes is mkultra victim… the illuminati agents use the same technics and drugs.

James Holmes‘ appearance at court showed him totaly drugged and his eyes bulging, it’s typical of demonic possession by jinns/devils… Mkultra preparation is based on drugs, satanic rituals and demonic possession… James Holmes States was so explicit that the judge has banned cameras on next courts.

- The 2010 movie “Rampage” is the copy paste story of the Aurora Carnage, the attacks are similar, both characters, Bill Williamson, the lead character in “Rampage” and James Holmes looks like each others and have the exact same profile….there is a lot of other similarities and references to the Aurora Carnage’s date and to 7/27/12.

*** More Predictive Programming Movies for the London False Flag ***

“Kung Fu Panda 2″ shows a Big Ben like tower being destroyed, it’s about a Sacrifying its own people, a sacrifice which will take place at the middle of the year (ie the Olympics’ period).

“Rango” shows a series of explosions from underground tunnels which affect the whole city and make the ground fall and then a big ben like tower clock explodes.

“Spice World” shows a bomb which is placed under the Londonian bus of the Spice Girls…then the movie continues as oft hey were no bomb and when the movie ends, there is an extra scene in which the bomb explodes…the explosion takes place when the movie is over which refers to a bomb which explodes in London in the real life.

- In “The Sum of All Fears”, the vilains, the neo nazis make a false flag nuclear bomb exploding during the super bowl, the goal is to blame it on the Russian in order to trig a nuclear war between Russia and the USA… In the novel “The Sum of All Fears” by Tom Clancy, the scenario is a bit different, the vilains are the muslims, with the implication of Iran, a nuclear Bomb explodes in Denver during the Super Bowl, in order to trig a nuclear war between Russia and the USA…In retaliation, the USA orders an attack on Qom by nuclear strike… but eventually, they discover that Iran was not involved… This is similar to what is going on in the real life, the London False Flag will be blamed on Iran in order to trig a nuclear WW3 between East and West.

During the Big Brother UK show, there is a subliminal image which shows a blown up stadium.

- A Vauhxall UK ADS showing the Olympic colors and with the lyrics:

“Run run runaway, runaway baby
Before I put my spell on you
You better get get getaway getaway darling
‘Cause everything you heard is true”

Denver is at the center of many illuminati stuff:

* Aurora Carnage a DENVER Suburb
* James Holmes is student at the Denver University
* Denver University part of the MKUltra Program
* Illuminati Denver Airport with its satanic murals about ww3 and its huge underground bases
* BlackJack slideshow says that Denver will become the future capital of the world, ie North American Union which will be be born after the London False Flag
* Tom Clancy’s novel “The Sum of All Fears” speaks about a nuclear explosion during the Super Bowl in Denver

Music Clip “Not Prepared” by Mesh says we are doomed and focus on the London Underground

more and more terrorist attacks in Syria, Kenya, Bulgaria, Iraq, Denver…in order to desensibilize us about the coming the olympic false flag … The illuminati mainstream media says that these attacks are actually to target israeli tourists and are orchestrated by Iran…. they are preparing us to blame Iran for the coming nuclear false flag… a news report even says that Iran may target the olympics in order to kill israeli people… that makes no sense, but this is brainwashing

More and more illuminati mainstream media report about lack of security during London Olympics, lack of security guards, major security breaches, the FBI involved, the Mossad involved… we have a similar context than before 9/11…we are prepared to see a terrorist attack in London Olympics… but in reality, it won’t be due to a lack of security, it won’t be Iran… but it will be a false flag planned by the satanic secret elites.

Whatever you may think of someone who looks for coded semiotic messages in Kung-Fu Panda 2, Lil’ Wayne, and Rango (and I most emphatically do NOT)—-this suggests that we are currently in the midst of a crisis in culture as reflected in lack of confidence in all the major institutions of our times—a crisis of almost unprecedented proportions.

I am writing to suggest here that it is in fact because we have turned so far away from the ethical and foundational myths of our own Western Christian Society that we have forgotten the importance of ethics and foundational principles—and so we are wildly thrashing about, looking for truth, groping along the walls like the Blind Men in Isaiah Chapter 59.

We are hungry for justice and fair-play—that is the express message of the Hunger Games, presaged seven years go in V-for-Vendetta and echoed and emphatically confirmed in Dark Knight Rises.  We recognize fraud and hypocrisy in the straightforward pronouncements of “truth” from our government and major institutional authorities, but we lack the code to decipher what is really going on.

“You’re a detective now, you’re not allowed to believe in coincidence anymore” is clearly one of the quotes from Batman: Dark Knight Rises that will endure for a very long time.  Oh, I guess it could be taken as a simple practical bit of advice: “a detective has to follow every lead—no matter how weird or unlikely it looks at first.”  But there is too much else going on in Batman: Dark Knight Rises—to believe that this movie is not directly connected to the major transformational events going on in economic and political society around it.

No, just as I believe that mass murder carried a well-calculated message of political semiotics on 9-11-2001 for the U.S. Government to the American people, I believe that Aurora, Colorado, was (NOT a Satanic—at least not in the mystical sense, but a very practical, real world) a RITUAL murder, a historical enactment of a mythic reality with a political purpose—or perhaps several political purposes.  And it does seem that all signs are that the Brave New World Order will be centered in (if not Denver) then somewhere in Colorado….as it the Hunger Games also predicted..

But even that bit of advice has major political significance: are we not the ultimate arbiters of our own integrity?   Do we not surrender more than our sanity, but our freedom as well if we do not reject and refuse to believe that which is unbelievable?

I intend to write more—the relationship between myth, history, and political structure was after all the subject of my doctoral dissertation at Harvard, but one week after the killing in Aurora, on the day of the highly ritualized opening of the Olympics—and the close of the Small Arms Treaty in New York—it’s enough to say that every human being MUST be a detective, an archaeological digger for truth….in the great rubbish heap of history—past, present and future….

If James Holmes, a Mayflower descendent, has been selected by the powers that be (under Obama) as the symbol for the decline and decadence of the Anglo-Saxon Protestant people in the nation they founded, that too is very sad…. but extremely significant.  I have not yet been able to discover whether he’s related to the line of Oliver Wendell Holmes of Massachusetts, also an MYF lineage of some significance, though at the present it appears that these are two separate families…

Vive Marine Le Pen! Vive Tous La Famille Le Pen! Vive Le Front National! (3 days after Bastille Day—America’s 32 Year Reigning Queen of Pop Music Shoots and Misses)

Why Madonna’s Swastika Swipe May Actually Help Marine Le Pen

Madonna’s concert video featuring Marine Le Pen’s face with a swastika on it has generated a lawsuit from the extreme-right National Front party — and unease that the pop star went too far

It’s the Material Girl vs. the “bad girl” of French politics.

On July 15, officials for extreme-right leader Marine Le Pen’s National Front (FN) announced the party has decided to sue Madonna for using an image of Le Pen with a swastika on her forehead during a July 14 Paris concert. The move came after the pop diva’s Paris show beamed a video featuring morphing facial images, including one of Le Pen with a swastika superimposed on it. That then melted into a shot of a Hitler look-alike. The segment also contained imagery of other world leaders the singer presumably has problems with, such as Pope Benedict, Sarah PalinHu Jintao and Hosni Mubarak. Le Pen first caught wind of the morphing video after it was used during a May performance in Israel. “If she tries that in France, we’ll see what happens,” Le Pen said, threatening litigation — then speculating about Madonna’s motives for using her unflatteringly enhanced photo. “It’s understandable … aging singers who need publicity go to such extremes.” (Le Pen, 43, is 10 years younger than Madonna.)

But if the singer gets mostly applause from international audiences who identify Le Pen as Europe’s best-known face of xenophobic right-wing politics, she may find herself with fewer allies in France as a result of associating Le Pen with Nazism. The reason? Though Le Pen presides over a reactionary and Islamophobic party, she’s also clearly not a fascist, not a Nazi and not Hitler. In fact, she’s not even her father Jean-Marie Le Pen — who made revisionist comments and anti-Semitic statements part of his notorious public discourse. Comparisons of Le Pen and her party to her father’s rule over the FN not only leave many people in France feeling Madonna’s jab misunderstands Le Pen’s relatively moderate positioning but even victimizes her with an unfair association with the Nazi symbol.

Indeed, since becoming FN leader in January 2011, the younger Le Pen has angered many party veterans and traditionalists by expelling groups and individuals associated with extremism and neo-Nazi sympathies. According to those detractors, Le Pen is selling out many of the ultra-right tenets and currents that her father built the party with in her quest to make it more respectable.

And that’s what makes her a viable danger to the French political mainstream. With her brand of “reactionary lite,” Le Pen now threatens to reach millions of voters who previously shunned her father’s FN as neofascist. By attacking Marine Le Pen with a powerful but inappropriate symbol, Madonna may have offended more than just the 6.4 million people who cast ballots for Le Pen during France’s first round of presidential polling. “We can’t accept this despicable association,” declared FN vice president Florian Philippot in announcing the decision to file suit. “Marine Le Pen [will] defend her own honor, but also those of [party] members, supporters and millions of National Front voters.”

While no one outside of the FN — pundits, politicians or legal experts — has stepped up to defend France’s iconic reactionary against the pop queen’s swipe, an uneasy ambivalence emerged when Najat Vallaud-Belkacem, spokeswoman of France’s leftist government, said it was “unfortunate” that Le Pen was associated with the Nazi symbol.

What happens now? Should the court case against Madonna be heard and ruled in Le Pen’s favor quickly, the singer could be fined and forced to edit out the offending images from her other French concert in Nice on Aug. 21. More likely, experts say, the suit will take longer to come to trial, and the court is likely to accept Madonna’s anticipated arguments that the video is an artistic expression covered by freedom-of-speech statutes.

Yet even if she loses that case, Le Pen looks likely to come out ahead in terms of French public sympathy. If Madonna’s objective was to discredit Le Pen with the virtual swastika tattoo, the actual result for the FN leader may be a publicity windfall.

CONSTITUTIONAL WAR vs. 1984 “Perpetual War”

Congress, originally (in 1787), was supposed to be the successor to Parliament as the highest expression of the Sovereignty of the Anglo-American People.  It seems, over the past 70 years, that Congress has largely abandoned its role as the primary lawmaker in the United States. As noted on this blog recently, Executive Orders have pretty much replaced legislative enactments.  During the 1950s and 60s, the Judiciary was commissioned with implementing the program of desegregation which neither of the directly political branches were willing to impose on the unwilling American people.

But now, as a consequence of all this history, the “legislature” now longer “legislates”–it mostly ratifies bills prepared by bureaucrats or lobbyists.  Debate is almost nugatory, no longer meaningful, and elections seem “rigged” at all levels.  One of the key powers of Congress granted in Article I of the Constitution was the power to declare war, and Congress has done this throughout history—but the last times were in 1941-1942 at the beginning of the Second World War.

I find myself simply astonished by the following brain-dead (anti-Libertarian, anti-Ron Paul, anti-Constitutional) Republican “Red State” website (http://www.redstate.com/dcacklam/2012/05/16/law-war-security-why-libertarians-are-wrong-about-indefinate-detention/) defense of Indefinite Detention, but I reproduce it here merely to highlight its one key but absolutely fatal flaw—the “War on Terrorism” (like the “War on Drugs”) is an undeclared, unconstitutional war.  It is also a war which is likely to last forever—where there is no Constitutional Declaration of War, there will be no Treaty Ratifying Peace—precisely because the ENEMY DEPENDS ON US FOR ITS EXISTENCE—There can be no Al Qaida, no Terrorist Threat anywhere, that is not nurtured and fostered by the CIA and other elements of the American and “allied” governments.  Long-term terrorism is in essence a fantasy, a very Orwellian Fantasy, just like the “perpetual war” of Eurasia, Eastasia, and Anglo-American “Oceania”:

I’m sure I’m not alone in having “grown up” on 1984.  In Orwell’s book a very credible “Cold War”-like “perpetual war” consumes what little surplus exists between the economies of London-based Anglo-American Oceania, Bolshevik Eurasia and Sino-Japanese Eastasia, the super-states which emerged from the atomic global war. “The book”, The Theory and Practice of Oligarchical Collectivism by Emmanuel Goldstein, explains how the balance of power is maintained: each state is so strong it cannot be defeated, even with the combined forces of two super-states—despite changing alliances. To hide such ridiculously illogical contradictions, history is  constantly being re-written to explain that the (new) alliance always was so; the populaces accustomed to doublethink accept it.

EXACTLY LIKE THE ARAB-ISRAELI CONFLICT AND THE WAR ON TERRORISM, ORWELL’S “FICTIONAL” (or was it Prophetic?) WAR is not fought in Oceanian, Eurasian or Eastasian territory but in the arctic wastes and a disputed zone comprising the sea and land from Tangiers (northern Africa) to Darwin (Australia).

{{{For those of you with a weak grasp on geography, that includes Morocco, Algeria, Libya, Egypt, Israel Syria, the Arabian Peninsula, the site of the USS Cole disaster in 1999, the sites of the U.S. Embassy Attacks in Nairobi & Dar es Salaam in 1998, Somalia, the Persian Gulf, Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Southeast Asia including Bangladesh, Vietnam, Malaysia and Indonesia—in other words EVERY major theatre of war since 1945 EXCEPT for Korea, but including BOTH “Stanleyville and Saigon” and Algiers which were sites of major undeclared “hot spots in the cold war” in the 1950s-60s).  I sometimes wonder whether 1984 was actually an INSTRUCTIONAL manual leaked out, and quickly reclassified as a “fictional” work.  The author George Orwell really DID work for BBC Wartime anti-Nazi propaganda in India, after all, and given his circle of friends and contacts he was probably as privy as anyone outside of government could be to Power-Elite’s Vision of their plans for the next 70 years….}}}

At the start of Orwell’s Perpetual War, Oceania and Eastasia are allies combatting Eurasia in northern Africa.

That alliance ends and Oceania allied with Eurasia fights Eastasia, a change which occurred during the “Hate Week” (comparable to the real world “National Brotherhood Week” maybe?) dedicated to creating patriotic fervour for the Party’s perpetual war.  The public are utterly insensitive and blind to the change; in mid-sentence an orator changes the name of the enemy from “Eurasia” to “Eastasia” without pause. When the public are enraged at noticing that the wrong flags and posters are displayed they tear them down—thus the origin of the idiom ”We’ve always been at war with Eastasia”; later the Party claims to have captured Africa.

{{{I personally have, for a long time now, suspected that it is no coincidence that we first went to war with Saddam Hussein and a terrorist named Osama bin Laden and then [had elected for us] a New World Order President named Barack Hussein Obama—so that people would have these similar sounding names confused, just as in Orwell’s 1984}}}.

“The book” by Goldstein, a credible name for a New World Order Theorist if ever there was one, explains the design and purpose of the unwinnable, perpetual war: the war serves to consume all “surplus” or excess human energy, time, labour and commodities, hence the economy of a super-state cannot (or is not expected to) support economic equality (a high standard of life) for every citizen.

Goldstein also details in characteristic doublespeak an Oceanian strategy of attacking enemy cities with atomic rockets before invasion, yet dismisses it as unfeasible and contrary to the war’s purpose; despite the atomic bombing of cities in the 1950s the super-states stopped such warfare lest it cause disequilibrium among the perfectly balanced and perpetually warring powers and thus bring about the uneconomical, politically undesirable, result of an actual peace.

Even the Perpetual War military technology in Orwell’s 1984 is prophetic in that, although it differs little from that of World War II, strategic bomber airplanes have been largely replaced with an evolved species of Werner von Braun’s Rocket Bombs (not quite the ICBMs of the Cold war, or the ABMs of the Star Wars Dreamtime).  True to the reality of Korea, Vietnam, and Iraq, helicopters were heavily used as weapons of war (while they didn’t figure in WW2 in any form but prototypes) and surface combat units have been all but replaced by immense and unsinkable Floating Fortresses, island-like contraptions concentrating the firepower of a whole naval task force in a single, semi-mobile platform.  Orwell’s novel describes one such platform anchored between Iceland and the Faroe Islands, suggesting an Political and Practical “Perpetual War”-perpetuating preference for sea lane interdiction and denial).

In any event: serious students of U.S. History will recognize in the passage below, but see the logical and moral flaws in, the direct comparison to the U.S. Civil War of 1861-1865—when the rights of Americans, North and South, were first repressed and began their long decay into the nightmare of what I can only call either “the Brave New World” or “The New Dark Age”—although fans of George H.W. Bush like to call it “The New World Order”:

Law, War & Security – Why libertarians are wrong about ‘Indefinate Detention’

We hear complaints on this subject from time to time – in the past it was Bush’s opening Gitmo, the 2006 Military Commissions Act, and now it’s the NDAA & Obama not closing Gitmo…

Supposedly, this is a ‘grave violation’ of people’s rights, and we should all be very, very afraid because ‘It might be us next’…

Predictably enough, it’s usually lefties, extremists, libertarians, and Paul supporters (but I repeat myself on the last one, it seems – as that group encompasses all of the ones preceding) making these claims…

And rather than using the correct terms – such as EPW (Enemy Prisoner of War) or POW, and ‘detention for the duration of hostilities’, they use ‘indefinite detention’ and ‘violation of habeas corpus’ – as if the situation is one of holding every-day civilian criminals indefinitely without trial, rather than holding enemy combatants (some lawful, some very much unlawful) captured while engaging in hostilities against the United States…

So, with that said, here’s the case FOR proper handling of EPWs – or as the L’s call it ‘indefinite detention’:

1) The traditional treatment of captured persons, and specifically the concept of taking prisoners & holding them for the duration of hostilities or until an exchange can be negotiated, is older than the United States – and something we practiced ourselves in every war we have fought.

If it was Constitutional and right to hold British, Mexican, Spanish, German, and Japanese prisoners for the duration of the war-in-question – and to hold captured rebels for the duration of hostilities during the Civil War (despite their holding US Citizenship (the Union never recognized the CSA as a foreign nation) it being legal under the Constitution to try and execute them for treason instead – a decision likely influenced by the mutual possession of prisoners by both sides & the Union’s desire for reconciliation after eventual victory), what has changed to make it suddenly unconstitutional to hold Al Queda and Taliban prisoners in the same manner?

2) There are international agreements on the treatment of captured and retained persons – a subset of what is referred to in the military as ‘Law of Armed Combat’ or ‘Law of Land Warfare’ – that require certain things & prohibit others. Shooting surrendered enemy forces is prohibited, as is torture and various other offenses. <b>So is subjecting captured enemy troops to the capturing nation’s CIVILIAN JUSTICE SYSTEM.</b> Prisoners found to have engaged in unlawful combat/war crimes (through a hearing process spelled out in the aforementioned agreements) are to be tried by <b>military court</b>, NOT civilian court.

3) Of the alternatives, indefinite detention is the only legal way to keep captured enemy forces from returning to the battlefield (that’s why we’ve done it in every other war).

History – including OUR OWN history – shows that when combatants escape or evade capture, they routinely rejoin friendly forces and return to the fight. This isn’t unique to bad-guys – the US military has a good list of medals awarded to troops who escaped from or evaded capture, then returned to friendly lines & re-entered combat. In this war, we have a Marine of Muslim descent, who after being captured in Iraq tricked his captors into releasing him to a neutral Muslim country with promises that he would desert – of course when he got there he immediately went to the US Embassy & returned to the Marines. In addition, there are documented cases of released EPWs returning to the fight against us in this war.

- We can’t shoot them – that’s kind of illegal and immoral (Yes, they’d do it to us, but the price of being good guys is, well, being good)…
- We can’t try them as civilians – they’re not civilians, and it’s illegal.
- Releasing them to a foreign country means they’ll be back in the fight against us as soon as they can find a way home (as a Soldier myself, that’s what I’d do to them if I managed to get captured & released alive (fat chance – which is why anything is preferable to capture in this war, but let’s allow the example))…
- (For Taliban captured in Afghanistan) Turning them over to the Afghans results in them being treated as civilian criminals by the Afghan government, and that results in their being released due to the Afghan rules of evidence being ridiculously too limited.

So that leaves the one thing every single nation has done during a war – lock them up in a POW camp, in military custody (a place like, um, Gitmo) until the war is over…

3) The notion that we are in danger of EPW measures being used against US citizens, on US soil & not engaged in hostilities against the United States, for political or other nefarious purpose is unjustified paranoia. We have been at war for over 10 years now, and it hasn’t happened. Now it’s understandable to hear various revolutionary movements complaining, because at their core you usually find extremists who are willing to levy war against the US to achieve political ends – and who want to make winning that war as hard as possible for the US. But for everyone else, it’s paranoia… Plain and simple…

Personally, I’d say the violent-revolutionary types should be more worried about what we’ll do to them if they actually try to have their revolution – getting captured & held for the duration is the least of worries (compared to being killed by vastly superior pro-US forces, or captured & executed for treason)….

“Behold El Capitan,” “Remember the Maine,” Guy Fawkes’ Day, September 11, and the Culture of Deception

Some of my happiest days as an undergraduate at Tulane University were spent in Dixon Hall under the tutelage of my voice and singing instructor Francis Monachino, long-time Chairman of the Tulane & Newcomb Music Departments and a great and inspiring teacher.

My first part in any major production at Tulane was as “Senor Amibile Pozzo, Chamberlain of Peru” in John Philip Sousa’s Comic Operetta El Capitán (Premiered in April 1896 in Boston & New York).  I never realized it at the time, but this comedy had great historical significance, and may have played a part in launching 20th Century America’s Culture of Deceit and Deception.

The plot is pure farce, on its face: “El Capitán” is in fact Don Enrique Medigua, a fictional Spanish Viceroy of Peru, which was in reality the richest of all the dominions in the New World, whose production of gold, silver, and agricultural products far outstripped even Mexico during the 16th, 17th, and 18th Centuries.  Don Medigua fears assassination by rebels, and secretly arranges for the murder of the (real) rebel leader known as “El Capitán” (so the real rebel leader plays no part in the operetta). Unbeknownst to the rebels or anyone except his Chamberlain Pozzo, Don Medigua disguises himself as El Capitán and sabotages the rebel movement from within, but not before allowing the beautiful Estrelda, daughter of the former Viceroy, to fall madly in love with him based on his reputation as a fierce terrorist and warrior.  Don Medigua’s actual wife and daughter think he has been kidnapped by the rebels and have Pozzo pretend to be the Viceroy so that the Spanish born Aristocrats of Peru will not lose hope and despair.   An enterprising band of rebels then capture Pozzo, believing him to be the real Viceroy, and bring him before El Capitán who is, of course by this time in something of a pickle.   But Don Medigua disguised as El Capitán has so completely exhausted the rebels by his “mis-leadership” that the rebellion collapses, the Spanish nobility wins, and the story ends “happily.”

A thought that never occurred to me when I was playing Pozzo at 16 (to Anthony Laciura’s brilliant performance as Don Medigua/El Capitán) now seems so obvious to me: was it mere coincidence that the most popular writer of military marches in American history composed this operetta less than two years before the sinking of the Battleship USS Maine in Havana Harbor on February 15, 1898.  Most historians now concur that the Maine, the second armoured cruiser (pre-dreadnought Battleship) in the U.S. Navy, was deliberately sunk by its crew for the sole purpose of inciting American popular opinion in favor of America’s first “World Wide War” of expeditionary conquest (i.e., the direct precursor of Vietnam, Afghanistan, and Iraq).   El Capitán exemplifies the literary, historical, and/or dramatic trope that certain ideas appear first as a comic joke and then are later taken seriously: if John Philip Sousa’s operetta was not the template for the sinking of the Maine, it is nevertheless a remarkable historical coincidence that Don Medigua first murders and then impersonates his enemy in order to defeat him in a popular drama that was still playing all over the United States when the USS Maine blew up.

And yes, I write all this at the close of Guy Fawkes’ Day, November 5, 2011: Remember, Remember the Fifth of November, the Gunpowder Treason and Plot; I know of no reason why the Gunpowder Treason should ever be forgot.  I like to pat myself on the back and brag that no sooner had Osama bin Laden been named as the perpetrator of 9-11 than I predicted with great confidence that he was the new Gunpowder Plotter, and that 9-11 was the new 5th of November.  I predicted that bin Laden’s name would endure forever beside Guy Fawkes, but unfortunately, I had no role in producing the amazing movie based on that theme which came out in 2005, on the 400th Anniversary of the original Gunpowder plot in 1605.

V-for-Vendetta remains, to my mind, probably the finest political movie of the century, and I mean the past hundred years since the beginning of the cinematic film industry, not just the 21st Century in which we have lived for barely 11 years.  Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving marvelously portray the principle characters in this story which explores all the possibilities of the use of the Guy Fawkes gunpowder story, and this movie has in turn given a new birth of metaphoric and dimensional analysis to the study of false flag attacks, false heroism, and the role of government as “first among all liars.”

There is not a shred of doubt that the movie V-for-Vendetta is the story of 9-11, metaphorically, allegorically, fictionalized as Britain under a pseudo-Fascist (Adam Sutler, whose name is awfully reminiscent of Adolph Hitler) instead of the United States of America under a pseudo-Republican (George W. Bush), in future time rather than historical, but with so many direct references to 9-11 and associated events…. well, it’s just incredible.

Also incredible to me is that the Wikipedia article on V-for-Vendetta does not even mention the parallels between the Sutler regime’s use of false-flag bioterrorism against the British people and the (9-11 “Truth Movement’s” theory that the) Bush regime used false-flag air terrorism against the American people.  To me, the parallels are inescapable: the producers of V-for-Vendetta analyzed the same facts concerning recent history as those which gave rise to the 9-11 Truth Movement and came to the conclusion that terrorism originates not (primarily anyhow) with real Muslim extremists but with governments who see the “genius” of fear and use it against their own people to suppress civil liberties and maintain power.

The Muslim terrorists (in both North American and Western European modern history and V-for-Vendetta mythology), to the extent that they are real, are rather like Guy Fawkes in the 17th century.  Modern Muslim terrorists, like Papist plotters of the past, have great value as symbols and embodiments of a real but rather vague threat to the national identity which justify the use and maintenance of real power.  The Papist threat in England could only materialize when it comes in the form of a Catholic King (like King James II Stuart, grandson of James I, against whom Guy Fawkes allegedly plotted, and younger brother of Charles II who had no legitimate offspring [although he had literally dozens of illegitimate children by his mistresses].  The tumultuous history of 17th Century Stuart England focused on the maintenance of royal power through popular fear of Catholicism, balanced against royal fear of popular power manifested through Cromwell’s Civil War and Commonwealth (including the Regicide/Martyrdom Murder/Execution of King Charles I on January 31, 1649 after a preposterous “show” trial of the King for treason) and finally the “Glorious Revolution” of 1688-1689 which firmly established the modern Constitutional Monarchy of Great Britain ruled by Parliament.

In Adam Sutler’s England, like George Bush’s America, maintaining fear of Muslims among the people supported the repression of the historical “English Freedoms” secured under Elizabeth I, James I, Charles II, and William III & Mary II.  If there are real fears of Muslim domination in America, they are coming to fruition under George W. Bush’s successor, “Barack Hussein Obama” whose name resoundingly echoes both “Osama” (bin Ladin, the modern Guy Fawkes) and the former dictator of Iraq whom George W. Bush decided to eliminate to maximize control over a nation which simply did not accept the “Bush doctrine” of Global government under US control.

Any way you look at it: elaborate governmental lies concerning faked attacks and falsified heroes have been used to justify strong central governments for a very long time now.  It is hard to say whether the original Gunpowder Plot was real or staged. The “November 5″ plot on King James I and his wife and Court MIGHT have been real, and if so, it was a REALLY stupid plot (there was not enough Gunpowder under the houses of Parliament or any other explosive technology available in 1605 to have blown through and killed the King).  Even if successful, the plotters had no Papist “nominee” lined up to become King of England on King James’ death, and James’ eldest son at the time, the future Charles I, was only two weeks short of five years old on November 5, 1605. (But admittedly, if James AND his children had been killed, legitimate succession at that point might have been very difficult, in that no English Monarch since Henry VIII had had any children: all of Henry Tudor’s children: Edward VI, Mary I, and Elizabeth I, died childless, possibly in part a testament to their own horror at their father’s gruesome “family and marital” life and history).

Other historians have seen Guy Fawkes as a “Patsy” (scapegoat) comparable in real role and status to Lee Harvey Oswald in the assassination of John F. Kennedy, being the “Fall Guy” for the “False Flag” Gunpowder Plot just as “9-11 Truthers” (including this writer) believe that Osama bin Laden was merely the “Patsy” for the events of 1998-2001 and afterwards which gave rise to the USA Patriot Act of 2001 and all the subsequent greatest suppressions of English and American liberties in the entire history of both nations since the reign of Henry VIII (who died 102 years and 3 days before the execution of Charles I, on January 28, 1547).

The study of “false flag” terrorism and warfare is a rising subject of historical deconstruction.  It is stark testimony to the general lack of confidence people have in the U.S. government that a large number of people (polls differ) disbelieve the “official stories” of the Warren Commission concerning the events of November 1963 in Dallas, the origins of the Vietnam War in the “Gulf of Tonkin” incident the very next year, in August of 1964, and the subsequent stories of the events in the 1990s at Ruby Ridge (Idaho), Mount Carmel (Waco, Texas), Oklahoma City, the US Embassies in Nairobi and Dar es Salaam, and finally 9-11 itself in New York, Washington, and Pennsylvania.  Pearl Harbor, the trigger for World War II, was obviously not a “False Flag” attack (there is not and has never been any doubt that the Imperial Japanese Navy was correctly identified as the culprit, and that it acted under official orders from Tokyo). But many Americans (and others worldwide) believe that President Franklin Delano Roosevelt had despaired of ever finding a politically adequate or emotionally sufficient excuse to embroil or involve the United States into World War II, and so he either expressly invited the Japanese to attack or at the very least intentionally disabled the U.S. Naval and air forces around Hawaii in early December 1941.

The governments of the United States and the United Kingdom, in this day, appear to be governments based on a culture of pure deceit and deception.  All governmental pronouncements and actions should be regarded with the most stringent suspicion.  As one of the newscasters says in V-for-Vendetta ”we just report the news, we don’t make it up….that’s the government’s job.”

Understanding the law as it is vs. living in denial (Orly Taitz & Gary Kreep before the Ninth Circuit)

If elected to the United States Senate, I will fight for the enactment of laws which restore power to the people and diminish the power of the United States Government at every possible turn and in every possible way.  I will seek to reform the judiciary, by the abolition of judicial immunity, but also by seeking Congressional override of the cases and rules which have all but closed the Federal Courts to the people of the United States with regard to any questions of real importance.  I have learned by trial-and-error, quite literally, that the judicial system and the laws of the United States now support an oligarchy rather than a democratic-republic, and that in doing so they support what Dwight D. Eisenhower christened the “Military-Industrial Complex”, except that the only industry really left in the United States now is the manufacture of nearly worthless money through “credit” backed only by the bullying threats of the United States Military-Industrial Complex, which has since the end of World War II engaged in a nearly perfect Orwellian constant, continuous war against enemies whose identities are constantly shifting.  At the end of 1984, of course, Winston Smith, aka “6079 Smith W”, ”had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother”.   It was that love of Big Brother which shaped the world which Aldous Huxley had portrayed in Brave New World, published 18 years before Orwell’s 1984, and it is something very much like Winston’s love of Big Brother which seems to dominate the American media and popular culture lifestyle all over America today.  I, for one, do not love Big Brother or anyone who loves him, although I might forgive and try to educate some of the latter.

To that end I will tell you that even many of those who call themselves Patriots live just as much in denial as Winston Smith did at the end of 1984: they believe that the law is on their side, and that if they just keep trying, they can make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear, and restore democratic values in America without wiping the slate virtually clean.  I demur.  I have been involved in many causes over the past twenty years, some more catastrophic than others.  The only consistent “winner” in this fight I know is among the most modest of leaders, with among the most modest of goals, namely former State Senator and now State Representative Jerry O’Neil of Kalispell, Montana, who lives in the beautiful shadow of the Continental Divide and Glacier National Park.   But I have spent all too much time with one of the most consistent “losers” in the game—and so it was

With more than a little curiosity I tuned in to watch Orly Taitz & Gary Kreep “do their best” before the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals on May 2, 2011, in Pasadena.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hBLA2NdQZoM.  There are many personal, professional, and political reasons for my interest.  As is fairly well known, I had worked with Orly, been represented by Gary against Orly, and long before either of those experiences, I knew the Courtroom because I had worked with Judge Harry Pregerson, as well as Judge Alex Kozinski whenever they sat in Pasadena, during my first actual job in law which was a judicial extern for Judge Stephen Reinhardt of the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals*.  I found the Judges of the Ninth Circuit very high minded and informal to deal with, whether liberal or conservative—even as a humble extern I was invited separately to the homes of Judges Pregerson and Reinhardt (even met Dean Pregerson before he was a U.S. District Judge—I always cannot help but wonder whether Dad still “reviews” his son’s homework—or does dad recuse himself from any appeals from his sons’ cases).

But I also found the subject matter of the Obama eligibility case interesting in 2009, while I was in fact working on it, and my interest has not much diminished, nor has my concern that this country rapidly is going to the dogs.

The arguments of counsel disappointed but did not surprise me.  What disappointed me most was that neither Gary nor Orly gave even a single reason which would have convinced me (if I were still an extern working on the case for one of the Judges) why the Court of Appeals should have granted the Plaintiff’s motion to reverse Judge Carter (when I could have thought of at least a few).

Among the greatest mysteries of 2009 (to me at least) is why Orly failed or refused (I think it was refused) just really and carefully to read Judge Carter’s Order of dismissal.  Because the truth is that Judge Carter’s order was about as positive and a wonderful order as an order granting a Motion to Dismiss could possibly be for a Plaintiff.  Carter gave us a very well-thought out roadmap of how to restructure the complaint, which had been cobbled together EXTREMELY quickly because of Orly’s paranoia—or her very genuine desire and determination to lose the case.

And yes, I still believe that Judge Carter was initially very favorably disposed to the case and very willing to tolerate Orly’s psychologically unfathomable behavior in and relating to Court.  Or at least I believe that Judge Carter was favorably disposed while I was working with Orly to temper her madness—before and until Orly backed Carter into a corner and forced him to clarify his original order of dismissal was WITH prejudice.

Orly was just determined to throw the case. I remain convinced of it.   She was determined to make a hash out of everything she touched so that she could either (a) do what she was planning to do, to destroy the eligibility movement or (b) achieve status as a martyr in her own mind, an enigma in her own time.  Orly never listened to a thing I said or suggested about the case or litigation strategy 99% of the time, but under the rules, a district court order of dismissal not accompanied by a final judgment of dismissal under Rule 58 is always presumed to be without when it is not specified to be with prejudice, or some other rule or circumstance requires such a determination.   I told Orly—and she didn’t care or didn’t listen—or her “orders” were that she not listen.  And so she ranted and raved that Judge Carter was a traitor and that some pimply-faced fresh lawclerk from Perkins Coie was an Obot planted by the President of the United States in Judge Carter’s Court to give the Judge instructions and orders on what to do and how to do it.

If Orly had really wanted even to have a chance to win—she would have listened to me and just carefully reworked the Barnett et al. Complaint—and followed Judge Carter’s instructions—and I think we could have—and either we might have made it to discovery and at least a Motion for Summary Judgment or else the appeal of this case would have been quite different—”if things had been different, well, things would have been different.”

But as it was, the sole question before the Court was whether the Plaintiff’s had injury standing to bring suit.  Gary Kreep all but totally conceded the repeated question that the case was filed too late for his (former client) candidates to have any special standing, and Orly Taitz simply wasted her time saying less than nothing pertinent, trying instead to make an issue of the President’s April 27, 2011 release of a document which was not and because of its timing could not possibly be before the Court of Appeals.

Accordingly, I submit that the ideas I framed and drafted as Orly’s lawclerk were the best in the case (and if elected to the United States Senate I promise to push for the enactment of laws enshrining these ideas as litigation rights in the United States Code): that the unique circumstances of the Presidential eligibility before Court more closely resembled Flast v. Cohen taxpayer standing than anything else, in that if taxpayers were not afforded standing to object, then certain clauses of the constitution (among them Article II, Section 1, and the establishment clause of the First Amendment) are left without any advocates for judicial remedy whatsoever, and the Constitution was written to constitute a document of “fundamental law,” not just a series of non-binding resolutions to be followed at political convenience or discretion.

Had I been able to appear before the Ninth Circuit, I would have argued for taxpayer standing together with my firmly held belief that the Constitution expressly grants First Amendment standing to petition the Courts for redress of any and all grievances, and that the Ninth Amendment reservation of rights also accords similar standing to petition for redress of any and all grievances.  The second best line of argument presented to Judge Carter was that concerning the obligation and remedies available to those who took specific oaths to uphold the Constitution of the United States, especially Military Officers.

All these issues were before the Court, because I drafted documents which put them before Judge Carter, although he largely ignored them, yet Orly and Gary did not pick up on these details at all.  It is almost as if, in particular Orly, really wanted to lose.

Orly had failed to develop any of the ideas of Flast v. Cohen taxpayer standing or First or Ninth Amendment Standing before Judge Carter—before or after she accused him of treason (which I would like to make very clear I repeatedly counseled her NOT to do) and she did not even mention them in her oral argument.  The Court of Appeals Judges had little or nothing to say to Orly or ask her.  They probably knew anything they said would have just encouraged her.  My collaboration with Orly has caused a lot of problems in my life.  That’s still a story that hasn’t been completely told and this is not the place to tell it.

So, just for the historical record, or for a partly egotistical, partly altruistic, attempt to salvage some of the ideas and pass them on for future use in other cases, I attach the two documents I consider to be the “best” of all Orly’s filings in connection with the question of whether Barack Hussein Obama should occupy the White House or not, and yes, I did have something to do with their creation while I was overlooking the Pacific from Suite 4 of the Casa del Mar in San Clemente.  It was a pleasant place where I spent five-and-a-half-to-six of the most pleasant months of my recent life, only five-and-a-half-to-six weeks of which were spent in the professional and personal company of Orly Taitz.   What can I say—I kind of wish she had stayed and been a sane person, but then she just wouldn’t be Orly I guess.   We could have done a lot of things, and had a lot of worthwhile projects and case number 09-cv-00082-DOC was not even close to the most important of the projects we needed to do—although it was the most famous and the only one Orly ever cared about.

The documents in question to which I refer here are:

09-cv-00082-DOC – Flast v Cohen

09-cv-00082-DOC Motion for Leave to File Surreply

(*There being no such things as judicial “interns” in the Ninth Circuit or CDCA, the job description for a “judicial extern” still  sounds to most folks very much like an “internship”, and J.D. students compete for these positions much in the manner that J.D. recipients compete for post-J.D. “judicial clerkships”)

March 5, 2011, Inauguration of (unelected) Rutherford B. Hayes (1877), Impeachment of Andrew Johnson (1868), the Boston Massacre (1770), First Temperance Law in America (1623), Copernicus “De Revolutionibus” Banned (1616), 3rd Lateran Council (1179)—on the whole March 5 has not been a good day for Civil Rights in History

March 5 Events in History

I confess to have plagiarized the skeleton for this day in history from another site called “www.brainyhistory.com”, although there’s honestly nothing so very brainy about this particular list—see the lack of historically important or even relevant events for most of the 20th century.   However, it seemed like as good a source as any and I have added my own comments where appropriate, so there is “value added” here.  However, I think the list of events in itself is notable: for most of the 20th century, the only events recorded occurred in the entertainment and sports arenas.  Real historical events are largely absent from the 20th century record, although a few start being listed in the 19th century.   In Aldous Huxley’s Brave New World, a mindless addiction to sports, entertainment, and film entertainment (including television), together with free love (consequence and even emotion-free) sex plus constantly piped music in public places, were all integral and indispensable elements and aspects of the world- governmental plan, together with drugs, to keep a zombified and mostly uneducated population completely under control and docile.   In Edward Gibbons’ Decline and Fall of the Roman Empire, the historian has a throw-away comment which has become popularized about how the empire entertained and controlled the masses with “bread and circuses”.  It is hard not to feel that there are certain parallels and genuine structural-functional kinship between the socio-political reality of 2nd-3rd century Rome and the modern worldwide “Pax Americana”. The average American can name more sports and movie stars than senators or representatives, and nobody seems happier with this situation than sports and movie stars AND senators and representatives, the latter largely operating behind the scenes occupied by the more flamboyant social and sex lives of the former.   If people think too much, they become dissatisfied, so play music constantly, blast television constantly, and make sure that there is little or no political or philosophical content to either.  That is how you keep a good, quiet, unfree but not unhappy population…..

1877 Rutherford B. Hayes inaugurated as 19th U.S. president; he was the First United States President until George W. Bush in 2000 who was neither fairly elected in the popular vote nor electoral college.  The real winner of the election of 1876 was Samuel J. Tilden, previously Mayor of New York City and Governor of New York, prosecutor of “Boss Tweed” and general White Hat Good Guy Democrat who promised the restoration of civil order and White Rule in the South after the atrocities of Reconstruction and the War Between the States.  President Ulysses S. Grant was suspicious of Tilden and most Republicans were simply unwilling to accept Tilden as President under any conditions.   Constitutional collapse was averted, as it was in 2000, by a massive subversion of the constitution and thwarting of popular will expressed through the ballot.   The “Compromise of 1877″ led to the Inauguration of the defeated Republican Candidate Rutherford B. Hayes and the withdrawal of United States Troops from the South, returning de facto and de jure power to White Supremacist (formerly Confederate) majorities throughout the South.  Samuel J. Tilden retired to endow, build, and develop both Central Park and the New York Public Library.  He is one of the unsung heroes of American History.  He could fairly easily have started a second Civil War (with New York this time squarely on the side of the South—there were pro-Southern and anti-Union Draft riots in New York during the four year conflict) but instead Tilden accepted the corrupt result of the Compromise of 1877 to avoid the further destruction to which war would inevitably have led.

1868 Stapler patented in England by C. H. Gould; plain white paper would never be safe again from repeated stabbing and mutilation.
1868 U.S. Senate organizes to decide charges against President Andrew Johnson; this was not the only idiotic impeachment trial ever actually held in the United States.  The charges against Andrew Johnson were basically that he was being too kind and lenient to his crushed homeland—the Southern United States, after the failure of Constitutional government led to secession and “Civil War” between the States in 1861-65.  As preposterous and unjust as the charges against Johnson were, the charges against William Jefferson Clinton tried in January-February 1999 were even stupider, arising from the President’s dalliance with White House Intern named Monica Lewinsky.  The people of the world for the most part simply looked at the idiots who put Clinton on trial and shook their heads.  The only socially important result of the Clinton Impeachment/Monica Lewinsky trial was that fellatio (female-to-male oro-genital sex) has been generally defined as “not sex” in American culture.  This preposterous result rests on the heads of Bill Clinton and his lawyers, and on his wife Hillary, who is now Secretary of State.
1864 1st track meet between Oxford and Cambridge
1862 Union troops under Brigadier-General Wright occupy Fernandina (on Amelia Island), in far Northeast Florida (Nassau County, north of Jacksonville, next to the Georgia Border).  Fernandina Island has one of the most bizarre histories in the South, as the site of a “Republic of Pirates” in the early years of the Nineteenth Century and many expeditionary exploits relating to U.S.-Spanish relations and the Independence Movement (and U.S. “Manifest Destiny”) in Mexico, Central, and South America.  Amelia Island/Fernandina was a major port for the slave-trade (officially abolished by law, and pursuant to the Constitution, in 1807).
1856 Covent Garden Opera House destroyed in a fire; it was rebuilt in order to serve as the opening setting for “My Fair Lady” starring Rex Harrison, born on this day in 1908…..
1856 Georgia becomes 1st state to regulate railroads; it is not clear whether General William Tecumsah Sherman violated any of the Georgia State Railroad regulations during his March to the Sea and burning of Atlanta in the fall of 1864, or whether the trains continued to operate pursuant to those regulations at all during the Yankee occupation….. Georgia railroads are shown in the movie “Gone with the Wind” but whether or not this portrayal is accurate no evidence of regulation is used as a plot device.   It seems likely that Sherman may have slowed railroad commerce in Georgia appreciably, thus defeating the purpose of the regulations.

1770 Boston Massacre, British troops kill 5 in crowd was the culmination of civilian-military tensions that had been growing since royal troops first appeared in Massachusetts in October 1768. The soldiers were in Boston to keep order in face of the growing discontent with the heavy taxation imposed by the Townshend acts. But townspeople viewed them not as order keepers but as oppressors and threats to independence. Brawls became common. In 1768, the Commissioners of Customs, who acquired their jobs in Britain and drew their pay from what they collected in America, were so intimidated by the resistance they met in Boston that they demanded military protection. Boston’s fifteen thousand or so residents were clearly the worst malcontents on the North American continent. It was imperative that they be put in their place.

General Thomas Gage (Commander In Chief of the British Army in America) agreed and ordered the regiments (under the command of British Lt. Colonel William Dalrymple), the “14th West Yorkshire Fuseliers,” and the “29th Worcestershire,” to Boston, which would arrive from Halifax in September. Six weeks later the “64th” and “65th” Regiments, with an addition of a detachment of the “59th” Regiment and a train of artillery with two cannon — in all about 700 men — arrived from Ireland to protect the men who collected customs duties for the King of England. To the people of Boston the coming of the troops was outrageous. They had been fighting for years against infringement by Britain of their right to tax themselves.

In one of the most famous and elaborate of Paul Revere’s engravings, Landing of British Troops at Boston, it shows the arrival of the red-coated British troops. Revere wrote that the troops “formed and marched with insolent parade, drums beating, fifes playing, and colours flying, up King Street. Each soldier having received 16 rounds of powder and ball.” Troops of the 29th, unable to secure lodgings in town, pitched tents on the common. The stench from their latrines wafted through the little city on every breeze.

When Colonel Dalrymple requested that all of his men be assigned to the homes of citizens, the Boston council took a firm stand. It declared that citizens were not required to furnish quarters until all the barracks space was filled, and Castle William, in the harbor, had plenty of empty berths. Besides, British Redcoats had already made a deep impression upon Americans during the French and Indian War. These career soldiers were widely regarded as being surly, brutal, and greedy; and no man of any sense was ready to see even one of them put into the house with his wife and daughters.

Governor Bernard, however, had counted upon dispersing the troops into the homes of malcontents as a way of putting pressure upon them. He declared that concentrating soldiers at Castle William would thwart the decisions made in London. The Boston councilmen held firm and refused to budge. Desperate, the governor designated empty factory buildings and small, empty buildings throughout the city to the troops.

Even under normal circumstances the presence of General Thomas Gage’s troops (nearly one for every four inhabitants) would have led to trouble. Now, the imposition of an occupation force on a city already torn with strife, made bloodshed a foregone conclusion.

By 1770 Boston was an occupied town. It had been compelled to accept the presence of four regiments of British regulars. For eighteen months they had treated the inhabitants with insolence, posted sentries in front of public offices, engaged in street fights with the town boys, and used the Boston Common for flogging unruly soldiers and exercising troops (then acting governor, Lt. Governor Thomas Hutchinson of Massachusetts, refuted these allegations).

It began when a young barber’s apprentice by the name of Edward Garrick shouted an insult at Hugh White, a soldier of the 29th Regiment on sentry duty in front of the Customs House (a symbol of royal authority). White gave the apprentice a knock on the ear with the butt of his rifle. The boy howled for help, and returned with a sizable and unruly crowd, cheifly boys and youths, and, pointing at White, said, “There’s the son of a bitch that knocked me down!” Someone rang the bells in a nearby church. This action drew more people into the street. The sentry found himself confronting an angry mob. He stood his ground and called for the main guard. Six men, led by a corporal, responded. They were soon joined by the officer on duty, Captain John Preston of the “29th,” with guns unloaded but with fixed bayonets, to White’s relief.

The crowd soon swelled to almost 400 men. They began pelting the soldiers with snowballs and chunks of ice. Led by a huge mulatto, Crispus Attucks, they surged to within inches of the fixed bayonets and dared the soldiers to fire. The soldiers loaded their guns, but the crowd, far from drawing back, came close, calling out, “Come on you rascals, you bloody backs, you lobster scoundrels, fire if you dare, God damn you, fire and be damned, we know you dare not,” and striking at the soldiers with clubs and a cutlass.

Whereupon the soldiers fired, killing three men outright and mortally wounding two others. The mob fled. As the gunsmoke cleared, Crispus Attucks (left) and four others lay dead or dying. Six more men were wounded but survived.

Captain Preston, the soldiers, and four men in the Customs House alleged to have fired shots from it were promptly arrested, indicted for murder, and held in prison pending trial for murder in the Massachusetts Superior Court, which prudently postponed the trial until the fall, thus giving the people of Boston and vicinity from whom the jury would be drawn, time to cool off.

All troops were immediately withdrawn from town. John Adams defended the soldiers at their trials (Oct. 24-30 and Nov. 27-Dec. 5, 1770); Preston and four men were acquitted, while two soldiers were found guilty of manslaughter and released after being branded on the hand.

The calm with which the outcome of the trials was accepted doubtless was attributable in large measure to the evidence at the trials that the soldiers had not fired until they were attacked. But another important factor was the withdrawl of the troops from Boston immediately after the “Massacre.” The sending of British warships and troops to Boston for the protection of the American Customs Board and the “Massacre” resulting from the prescence of troops there were, however, ultimately of great significance in the movement toward the revolution.

The “Massacre” served as anti-British propaganda for Boston radicals and elsewhere heightened American fears of standing armies.

1766 Don Antonio de Ulloa takes possession of Louisiana Terr from French, three years after formal transfer of Louisiana West of the Mississippi from French to Spanish ownership in 1763.  His governorship was so ineffective and unpopular that there was a rebellion against Spanish Rule in 1768 which exiled Uloa and briefly restored French “Independence” from New Orleans to St. Louis, but this state of affairs lasted less than nine months (October 27, 1768-July 19, 1769) and ended when Irish-Spanish “Wild Goose” Count Alejandro O’Reilly, born in Dublin in 1722, arrived from Cuba with 2000 Spanish troops, arrested, tried, and executed five of the French Leaders of the short-lived rebellion.  It was a little known and rare occurrence for the White Creoles of the New World to rise up against their Colonial Masters, and this little episode in Louisiana history has gone largely ignored and forgotten for its lack of socio-historical progeny—and for the economic success Spanish “Luisiana” after O’Reilly’s repression of the French Creole uprising.  O’Reilly himself spent less than a year in New Orleans.

1746 Jacobite troops evacuate Aberdeen, Scotland, so hurriedly that they left a large stock of muskets and gunpowder which fall into the hands of the British and are no longer part of the arsenal in support of Bonnie Prince Charlie which met its final defeat one month and 11 days later on Culloden Muir just outside of Inverness to the east on April 16, 1746.  It was not the sort of withdrawal that makes its way into heroic ballads—one of the Jacobite officers is said to have left his pet cat sleeping in front of the fireplace.  (But history does not appear to record what disposition King George’s Government might have made of the feline aligned with the maligned malcontents who maladroitly miscarried their miniature move towards reverse (anti-Hanoverian) regime change.
1743 1st U.S. religious journal, The Christian History, published by Thomas Prince, Pastor of Boston’s Old South Church throughout , Boston to report on the revivals sweeping America and Europe. One who notably and memorably wrote to Prince in relation to “The Christian History” was Connecticut’s (and Yale University’s) “Sinners in the Hands of an Angry God”/”The Ends for Which God Created Earth” preacher (and Vice-President/Killer of Alexander Hamilton—Aaron Burr’s Grandfather) Jonathan Edwards, who described the “Great Awakening” and changes taking place in Northampton (Massachusetts): “There has been vastly more religion kept up in the town, among all sorts of persons, in religious exercises, and in common conversation, than used to be before: there has remain’d a more general seriousness and decency in attending the publick worship; there has been a very great alteration among the youth of the town, with respect to revelling, frolicking, profane and unclean conversation, and lewd songs: instances of fornication have been very rare: there has also been a great alteration amongst both old and young with respect to tavern-haunting. I suppose the town has been in no measure so free of vice in these respects, for any long time together, for this sixty years, as it has been this nine years past. There has also been an evident alteration with respect to a charitable spirit to the poor.” The Christian History ran only two years. However, it’s founder, Thomas Prince was so influential that Prince Street and Princeton, Massachusetts were named after him. Francis Asbury, famed Methodist bishop, described reading the work with profit.  Jonathan Edwards died while President of the College of New Jersey, which also later became known as “Princeton”.
1684 Emperor Leopold I, Hapsburg Holy Roman Kaiser, the Kingdom of Poland, and the Republic Venice signed the “Holy Alliance of Linz”, whereby these three countries would form an alliance against the Turks, who were storing way too much gunpowder in the Parthenon, leading to that beautiful temple’s tragic destruction, but the truth is that the Ottoman Empire by this time was already stagnate and posed little real threat to Europe, especially compared to the events of the 15th-16th century, the time of the Conquest of Constantinople in 1453, the life of St. John Capistran (San Juan Capistrano), and finally the Battle of Lepanto in 1571 which the “Holy League” of Austria, Spain, Naples, Sicily, Sardinia, Savoy, the Republics of Genoa and Venice, and the Papal States turned back the Muslim tide, preventing Europe from becoming an Islamic Continent.   Since 1948, ironically enough, England and other European Countries have been inviting/allowing so many Muslim immigrants into Western Europe that the results of the Battle of Lepanto could well be nullified completely before the 500th anniversary of that event which will happen 60 years, seven months, and two days from the date of this blog on October 7, 2071.  Increasingly it seems that Pakistanis are the most vibrant ethnic group in England, Turks dominate German labor, and Algerians and Moroccans now control their former colonial masters in France.  Where, if anywhere, will it all end?  Today in the wake of the rebellion against Mohamar Ghaddaffi, Italy is being flooded with immigrants from its own former (albeit short lived) colony of Libya.

1658 Antoine Cadillac, french colonial governor of America—he probably never owned an expensive automobile by a publicly owned General Motors might look like nor imagined what “Body by Fisher” would have meant three hundred-to-three hundred fifty years later.  My Louisiana-Frecnh born grandmother Helen loved Cadillacs (the GM cars) and knew something about the history of Antoine, Sieur de Cadillac, but how few others remember him?

1558 Smoking tobacco introduced in Europe by Francisco Fernandes (pardon my French but WHAT AN F-ING DISASTER!)   March 5 should be a day of mourning for the millions of lung-cancer victims killed in Europe and the Americas as a result of this introduction.  I have little or no sympathy for smokers of tobacco in modern times, no more than I do for people who shoot themselves in the head or slit their wrists.  Smoking tobacco is basically an abomination without EVEN as much arguable benefit as smoking Cannabis Sativa L.

1496 English king Henry VII hires John Cabot (Giovanni Caboto) to explore.  Cabot sailed across the North Atlantic to Newfoundland, Labrador, and what is now Nova Scotia and New Brunswick, explored the St. Lawrence River and opened up the great Western North Atlantic/Newfoundland fisheries to English fisherman—one of the greatest food resources ever exploited, paving the way for eventual English Colonization of these areas.
1461 Henry VI was deposed by Edward IV, coincidentally also the Fourth Duke of York, during War of the Roses; Edward IV was also was the 7th Earl of March, the 5th Earl of Cambridge, the 9th Earl of Ulster, and the 65th Knight of the Golden Fleece.  He reigned for Nine Years until he died in 1470 and was then succeeded by Henry VI who returned from but reigned only briefly before being dying under somewhat historically obscure circumstances.  Edward IV’s younger brother Richard became Richard III, the last King before Henry VII instituted the “Tudor” dynasty from Wales and ended the war of the Roses.   Second only two Henry V, “Richard III” is probably the best known of Shakespeare’s history plays and schoolboys, such as the author of this blog, were required to memorize “Now is the winter of our discontent, made glorious summer by this Sun of York, and all that glowered upon our house, in the deep bosom of the ocean buried” Soliloquy for approximately 400 years.  Should I recite it all in print here from memory?  You’ll pass?  Oh well, another time.  ”Henry VI, Parts I , II, and III” together form Shakespeare’s longest and least memorable of the history plays, with no Jack Falstaff, no Harry Hotspur, no John of Gaunt, in short none of the wonderful characters that made Shakespeare’s other trilogy, Henry IV, Parts I, II, and III, not only tolerable but memorable.

1179 3rd Lateran Council (11th ecumenical council) opens in Rome.  March 5 was the first day of the Third Lateran, Eleventh Ecumenical Council.  But this day does not a great event in Christian history but arguably one of key events providing the reasons why the Universal Church failed to stay “universal”, and why the Pope in Rome was for many years seen to be the enemy of good religion and rational social policy.  Just for example, for the first time in Christian history (but in a tradition continuing to the present), priests were forbidden to marry or have friendship with women—even the sometimes apparently misogynistic St. Paul wrote  in one of his foulest moods: “It is better to Marry than to burn”.   The logic and morality behind a Celibate Clergy is simply incomprehensible in light of Christ’s teachings in the Gospels and Paul’s letters, not to mention the reality of human life—but it happened, at least “de jure” (never of course, “de facto”).  Sodomy was also forbidden and punishments provided, although how this prohibition was consistent with or supported the prohibition on priests having normal heterosexual relations to procreate is quite mysterious to the rational human mind.  Other “highlights” of the Third Lateran Council were increasingly oppressive laws against Jews and Muslims and “heretics” living in Christian Countries and provided automatic excommunication for anyone who lent money at interest (then known as “usury” without regard to any legal rate).   The Vatican City in Rome could do well to expunge and reverse all of these ordinances of the 3rd Lateran Council, although some charitable and educational and rational financial measures were also included (most notably positive was the prohibition on charing money for administration of any sacrament).

Mother’s Day 2010—of mothers, grandmothers, Gregg Abbott, and the Alamo….

On Mother’s Day, I can’t help thinking what an amazing and diverse institution motherhood is. Aldous Huxley in “Brave New World” predicted a society in which motherhood would be gone, a thing of the past. I think of the difference between my two grandmothers, one with one child and the other with 9. Yet they both remained married to their first and only husbands for life, and in fact outlived their husbands.

Then I think of a recent new acquaintance and friend of mine, Melinda S., now pregnant with her second child, by a second father, still never married, and I think of or try to imagine how different her life is now and is going to be from either of my grandmothers. Will she have five children by five different fathers before she turns 30? At this rate….quite possibly. Is she the future? Melinda’s mother is taking care of her first son already. I know lots of grandmothers taking care of their grandkids. But come to think of it, my grandmother raised me more than my mother did. Although my mother had a great influence on my life as a teacher and friend, albeit with great ups and downs and sometimes time gaps in our relationship—sometimes really major time gaps in fact. But my mother taught me the Magnificat and most of the prayers I know, and a great deal of everything I know in and about English, French, German, and Italian literature, music, and civilization traces to my mother directly or indirectly. Still, she really never played any games with me or dressed me when I was young–that was left to my grandmother or others. My mother was, I suppose, half-way between my grandmothers and Melinda…. both chronologically and behaviorally. What a strange, interesting thought. All three generations very intelligent, and very atypical of their own time in some ways, while epitomizing their time in others. I admire my grandmothers and their lives and marriages. I see few others. It does appear that my Latin American Comadres Betty M. and Lee A. will stay with their first and only husbands through life, Betty M. more surely than Lee. A recent friend as of last year, Milenne D., an economically privileged wife of an M.D. and mother of four, seems like a mother of the old school, even to the point of joining her husband in dinnertime prayers every night….but she’s yet young….how will she seem in 20 years I wonder? Will she be able to maintain her traditional status? Kathleen W., another relatively young mother of four beautiful children, is nowhere nearly as economically privileged as Milenne, but she has cleaved to her troubled marriage rather than dissolving all ties to an absent and unsupportive husband, but Kathleen’s children at least benefit from her stability and commitment to them and to the concept of family, while even someone like my mother has shown a definite “modern” commitment to self over family. So Is Motherhood on the rise or declining or stable as an aspect of human life? Or is motherhood just changing, now “divorced” from traditional family in a strangely pseudo-Huxleyan fashion? Will mothers ever be replaced by test-tubes and labs? Life would be so much poorer. But, in essence, Sigmund Freud taught of the hazards of motherhood interconnected with “Civilization and its Discontents” and warned the 20th century to fear the psychological consequences of the mother-child bond, and the social engineers of the 20th century have certainly been persecuting the family as a whole, trying to make it less and less stable and relevant. Huxley equated or conflated Sigmund Freud’s research and teachings with Henry Ford’s mass production: observing that both led to socio-economic philosophies advocating and idealizing “instant gratification”. If there’s anything I think motherhood is not, it is instantly gratifying. Texas is where I was born and where I became aware of all the problems and pitfalls of family, especially my first contact with the Family Court system, which I consider to be one of the most evil and socially destructive institutional systems in modern America. The Texas Attorney General, like all modern state attorney generals, is largely if not primarily a debt collector, a hunter seeking out “deadbeat dads”, berating them, jailing them, punishing them. Child support is a disguised socialistic wealth-redistributive tax that is particularly in tune with the socialist agenda because it both encourages families to split and maximizes tension between spouses after the split. The Texas Attorney General has his central offices in Austin, Texas, located in a county called Travis, named after William Barrett Travis, remembered as the Heroic Commander of the Alamo in the Texas War of Independence. Yet Travis himself was the consummate “deadbeat dad” having left not only his native South Carolina but his native country, the United States of America, to escape his responsibilities to his wife and children back on the old farmstead. History records very little of the study of William Barrett Travis’ wife or his children. Did they even know of their husband/father’s status as a hero in that radio-less, televisionless, AP-wireless era? What were their lives like? Were any of his children Confederate officers or soldiers? Would his wife have been better off if William Barrett Travis had been hunted down by a 19th Century Gregg Abbott and jailed for failure to pay child support? What would have happened at the Alamo and in Texas History Generally? What comments would William Barrett Travis’ wife have to make about this article? About the concept of mandatory child support? Or about the Revolution in Texas and her husband’s last stand at the Alamo? About his pronouncement that, “I will never surrender or retreat” in his last letter of which my grandparents had an engraved copy hanging in the bedroom in Highland Park, Dallas, in which both of them died, 21 years apart, in 1980 and 2001?
